Lolie could hardly sit still today. Her shabby little room felt too small for all the excitement bubbling in her chest. She twirled in front of the cracked mirror, paws brushing against the hem of a pretend gown only she could see.

“They really picked us,” she whispered, her whiskers twitching. “All twelve of us — in the design daycare.

No kitten from the haunted houses had ever been chosen before. Only the rich kittens with glossy coats and straight-backed tails ever got in. Lolie was sure some kind soul had whispered their names onto the list. A secret benefactor. A star hiding in the shadows.

At daycare, there would be bolts of silk, ribbons like rivers, and even a program just for dresses. Lolie loved that most of all. She imagined herself stitching gowns that glittered in moonlight, skirts that swirled like clouds, bows so big they could catch the wind.

Tonight, after her daydreams tired her out, she made herself a treat to match the mood: rosewater cream puffs, tiny and blushing pink. Each one was crowned with a sugared petal that crunched like laughter between her teeth. She shared them with the others, though she saved the smallest, most delicate puff for herself.

Because tomorrow, Lolie would begin. And tomorrow, her dream dresses would finally have a place to belong.

Imagination Action: Imagine you’ve been accepted into a secret design school. What would you want to make first — a dress, a room, a crown, or maybe even a pair of magical mittens? Draw it, describe it, or dream it up and tell a friend.
